In French class, we’re thrilled! We were able to use French in a real-life situation.
The 5th-grade classes were able to connect with the students at IC Dalmazio Birago to ask
and answer questions about simple topics close to their hearts.
We had this opportunity thanks to the Erasmus+ project we’re collaborating with at the school,
Building Europe on the Steps of Hannibal, which put us in touch with this school.
And where is this school? In none other than… Italy! On the shores of a beautiful lake, in
Passignano sul Trasimeno.
“But they speak Italian in Italy!” my students thought. But since they don’t speak Italian, and
the students there don’t speak Spanish, we used French as our common language.
These types of language exchanges happen frequently when you travel; you look for a
common language to communicate with.
That’s one of the reasons why the Italian teacher and I wanted to find a way to connect
students from both countries, so they could recognize the value of learning a second foreign
language.
We really enjoyed it!
